A villa that was once the home of Adolf Hitler’s half-sister Angela and welcomed many Nazi celebrities in the past has been sold for GBP 3.9 million.

The villa, known as ‘Haus in der Sonne’ (House in the Sun), which once belonged to Adolf Hitler’s half-sister Angela Franziska Johanna Hammitzsch (1883-1949) and her husband Martin Hammitzsch (1878-1945), who she married in 1936, was sold for EUR 4.5 million (GBP 3.87 million) on 1st July.

Haus in der Sonne is located in the town of Radebeul in Elbe Valley in the German state of Saxony.

Martin Hammitzsch was a German architect and local politician famous for designing and building the former cigarette factory known as the ‘tobacco mosque’ in the city of Dresden in 1907.

The 12,000-square-metre (130,000 sq feet) Haus in der Sonne belonged to the architect until 1937 when he sold it to the German Labor Front (DAF) and moved to the Villa Comeniusstrasse 61 in Dresden.

During East Germany’s (GDR) communist era, the villa and surrounding parks and vineyards were owned by a dental cosmetics manufacturer before they were bought by real estate entrepreneur Friedrich Kozka, 62, from the Pentagon Immobilien company for DEM 1.5 million in 1993.

The man who owned the villa until recently said: “I’ve just sold it because my children and one of the subtenants are not here. I’ll still be living there until the end of the year. The new owner is a native of Radebeul who wants to remain anonymous.”
