This adorable footage shows Sonya the sloth almost falling asleep while she eats an apple.

Leningrad Zoo workers captured the footage on their lunch break and it shows Sonya apparently starting to fall asleep while eating the apple.

Instagram users were moved by a video shared on 23rd March of Sonya the sloth chewing fruit and slowly closing her eyes as if she’s about to fall asleep.

One online commentator called Elena wrote: “Sonya recently charmed me. She demonstrated herself in all her glory, back and forth in the cage, rather than being bored to sleep.”

The zoo staff disclosed an unusual detail about the animal in the publication.

Sloths have 18 teeth, which they use to eat plant foods.

They are members of the order “Not full-toothed,” which also includes anteaters.

Clawed animals at the zoo prefer carrots and fruits, but they also like strawberries, oranges, and cherries.

A team member from the Leningrad Zoo staff told Clipzilla: “They eat apples, pomegranate, kiwi, grapes, cherries, zucchini, carrots, potatoes, boiled eggs, sprouted grains, raisins, nuts.”

“In this video, Sonia is eating an apple.”

Sloths can be found in the tropical house and the Primates pavilion at the Leningrad Menagerie.

In nature, sloths spend the majority of their time upside down in the trees of South and Central American tropical rainforests.
