An Arizona couple has been arrested for leaving their 11-year-old son home alone for two weeks with just frozen food and no one to take him to school.

The incident took place at a home in Cochise County in the US state of Arizona just after Thanksgiving on 24th November.

Cochise County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on 30th December: “On December 12, 2021 at approximately 6:45 pm, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a welfare check off of Coral Lane in Elfrida.

“The caller advised that there was a family living at the residence and the 11 year old son was possibly there alone for an undetermined length of time.

“Deputies responded and made contact with the 11 year old who was home alone, and further investigation indicated that the mother had left the residence to go out of state before Thanksgiving and the father had followed shortly after Thanksgiving.

“The child was left alone during the entire time until contact with Sheriff Deputies was made.”

The boy said there was frozen food available and that he had not been to school for at least two weeks.

The police said: “The report was submitted to the Cochise County Attorney’s Office and both parents were indicted on charges of Child Neglect. Both parents were arrested last night as they returned home from an unknown location.

“Melissa Green, 34 years of age, was booked into the Cochise County Jail on three counts of Child Neglect and Bobby Jo Green, 40 years of age, was booked into the Cochise County Jail on three counts of Child Neglect. Both have a bond of USD 100,000 for the listed charges.”
