B-2 Spirit Performing Air Refueling With A Maine Air National Guard Stratotanker

Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri, 15 June

A US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker from the Maine Air National Guard’s 101st Air Refueling Wing performed aerial refuelling training at high altitudes with B-2 Spirits from the 509th Bomb Wing. The refuelling mission occurred in the clouds over Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri on 15th June. According to the
Defense Visual Information Distribution ServiceV(DVIDS) this sort of hands-on training is valuable for both the boom operator and the B-2 pilots, as this type of expertise is uncommon, yet required by the B-2’s unique connection. The United States Air Force shared the operation footage on the Facebook platform explaining: “The B-2 Spirit represents a major milestone in the bomber modernization program. The bomber brings massive firepower in a short time to bear anywhere on the globe through previously impenetrable defences.”
