Firefighters continued working ‘nonstop’ on a fire that doubled in size during one night. The Beckwourth Fire burning in Northern California reportedly burning only 25,000 acres on Friday (9th July) grew to 55,000 in the course of only one night. Later reports from the US Forest Service, report that the fire, due to whirling winds and scorching temperatures had grown in size to 100,000 acres until the 15th of July. Nearly 1,300 people have been working to put out the fires in Pumas and Lassen counties, which are threatening more inhabited regions, such as locations near Highway 395 on the counties’ boundary with the Chilcoot area. As of Monday morning (19th July), the fire was reported to be at 23 per cent containment.
