Boy, 4, Discharged From Hospital After Being Hit By Motorbike That Killed Mum Who Used Her Body To Save Him

A four-year-old boy who crossed the road and was hit by a motorbike that killed his mother when she used her body to save him has been discharged from hospital after 16 days.

Tharykc Leandro, aged just four, was discharged from the Ceilandia Regional Hospital (HRC) in Brazil’s Federal District on 27th April.

He had been hospitalised for 16 days following the accident, which took place when he went to work with his mother, 21-year-old Layane Alves dos Santos, selling chicken at a shop in Ceilandia on the morning of Sunday 11th April.

CCTV footage shows how Layane crosses the road when her son runs out after her. She then runs back to grab him to remove him from the path of a fast-approaching motorbike. However, the two are then hit by the bike and dragged several metres down the road.

Despite passersby immediately coming to the pair’s assistance, Layane died from cardiac arrest at the scene.

The 29-year-old biker, named only as Phelipe, was uninjured in the accident and remained at the scene until help arrived.

Tharykc was rescued by paramedics and taken to the HRC, where he was put into a medically-induced coma and underwent cranial surgery.

When Tharykc was finally discharged from hospital, his grandmother, Rosangela dos Santos Barros, recorded a series of videos on her mobile phone of her grandson in which the two can be heard thanking the hospital and everyone who wished Tharykc a speedy recovery.

A tribute to the youngster’s mother took place on 26th April and was attended by around 60 people.
