Coast Guard Conduct Medical Evacuation On A 68 Year Old Aboard A Fishing Vessel

Coast Guard Air Station Sitka conducted a medical evacuation for a 68-year-old man who experienced a medical emergency while aboard a fishing vessel.

The medical evacuation took place in the West Crawfish Inlet, approximately 16 nautical miles south of Sitka, Alaska on 19th of August.

The good Samaritan fishing vessel Minke crew assisted in the rescue by providing communications between the Coast Guard the fishing vessel since there were limited radio capabilities.

The 68-year-old fisherman, whose name was not disclosed, was safely positioned into a metal carrier.

The man was then transferred to a larger deck where there was easier access for the Coast Guard rescue swimmer to conduct the hoist. He was then safely hoisted up and transferred to a local hospital.

There is no further information available on the condition of the evacuated man.
