Cops have arrested three babyfaced fraudsters who conned the daughter of legendary Soviet test pilot Valery Chkalov out of her life savings.

Cops from the Moscow Criminal Investigations Department in the Russian capital arrested the three youthful-looking fraudsters who tricked Olga Chkalova into handing over tens of millions of rubles.

The victim is the daughter of Valery Chkalov, the Soviet test pilot who achieved several milestones in aviation.

In 1936 and 1937, Chkalov participated in several groundbreaking long flights, including a 63-hour-long flight from Moscow to the city of Vancouver in Washington State in the USA via the North Pole.

He made the aforementioned flight in a Tupolev ANT-25 airplane, a Soviet long-range experimental aircraft first constructed in 1933.

Awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union in 1936, Chkalov died while piloting a Soviet fighter prototype, which crashed during its maiden test flight in December two years later.

The fraudsters conned Chkalov’s daughter out of her life savings by calling her up for two weeks, posing as employees of her bank.

They convinced her to transfer her entire savings – RUB 23 million (GBP 226,935) – to an “insurance account”, which actually belonged to them.

It was only after Olga had made the transfer that she realised she had been scammed and contacted the police.

The police opened an investigation and eventually located the suspects, who were trying to remain under the radar in the Republic of Buryatia in the Russian Far East.

They were subsequently arrested and taken to Moscow, some 2,778 miles away as the crow flies.

The police found money, communications equipment, bank cards and other pieces of evidence at their respective addresses.
