Cops Arrest Man With Cocaine Worth Over GBP 300,000 Hidden In Cake Boxes Among Sweet Treats

Cops in Germany have arrested a man after they caught him with four cake boxes containing a cherry cheesecake, a carrot cake – and four slabs of cocaine worth over GBP 300,000.

The 23-year-old Greek national, whose name was not disclosed by the police, was travelling on the Intercity Express (ICE) 125 from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to the German city of Oberhausen when officers arrested him near the town of Emmerich am Rhein at 2.45pm on Monday, 17th January.

Sankt Augustin Federal Police spokesman Uwe Esselborn told Newsflash: “The traveller identified himself with a valid Greek identity card.”

The officers noticed a plastic bag in the storage compartment above the passenger’s seat, which he said belonged to him.

Upon inspection, they found four cake boxes inside the bag, of which two contained a cherry cheesecake and a carrot cake respectively.

However, the man had hidden 5,060 grams (11 lbs) of cocaine with a street value estimated at over EUR 370,000 (GBP 308,000) in the other two cake boxes, which they seized.

Esselborn said: “The 23-year-old also had EUR 5,000 (GBP 4,170) in his coat and another EUR 980 (GBP 817) in his trouser pocket.”

He was arrested and taken to the Federal Police Inspectorate in the town of Kleve for further questioning.

Following standard police procedures at the station, the case was taken over by the Customs Investigation Department in the city of Essen.

The suspected drug dealer was remanded in custody, where he will remain until further notice.

The Koekela confectionery in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, where the boxes and cakes were from, has not made any comment on the matter.
