Cops Show Vid Of Manipulated ATM To Expose Faudsters

Cops have shared a video showing how crooks glue shut the money opening on ATM machines in order to rob unsuspecting bank customers.

The video was shared by Moldovan cops after the arrest of two Ukrainian men for ‘cash trapping’ around 50 ATM machines in the country.

The suspects, aged 31 and 30, are accused of targeting the ATMs of several banks located in Chisinau, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, as well as other regions in the Eastern European country.

Investigators established that the suspects installed ‘cash trapping’ devices in about 50 ATMs, which also cost around MDL 100,000 (GBP 3,968) in damage to the machines.

The suspects are being held in custody for 30 days as the investigation continues and could face between two and six years in prison if convicted.

The investigation was carried out by investigators of the General Police Inspectorate, the Riscani Police Inspectorate, the Chisinau Police Directorate, and the Border Police, with the help of the commercial banks involved.

Meanwhile, the local authorities advised citizens to immediately notify the bank in question if cash is not released when they requested it, or if they detect anything suspicious at an ATM.

Cash trapping is a common method used by gangs and cyber-criminals to target ATM machines.

The perpetrator blocks the ATM that traps the money allotted by the cash dispenser and prevents it from being released to the bank user.

Unable to access the money, the victim usually goes in search of another ATM, while the offender removes the device and nabs the cash.
