Spring is in the air for the lions at the Odense Zoo that have been getting playful with a selection of objects thrown in their cage for their amusement.

A video of the wild cats playing shows them tearing up cardboard boxes, jumping around with balls and fighting over bags.

The lions seem to be greatly entertained, but they are also fun to watch, at Odense Zoo in Denmark.

Everyone joins in on the fun- from young cubs to older lions with each individual coming up with their own way of playing with the objects.

In a statement the zoo said: “The lions have once again been given cardboard boxes – and this time with contents in the form of both a ball and sacks of straw and blood.”

A spokesperson from the Odense Zoo, Danni Larsen told Clipzilla: “We have three lions at this time, a male and two females, as well as two tigers – one male, one female. They are usually fed with horse meat.”

They say they like to keep their animals active and in good spirits, so they always come up with new toys.

They added: “We do a lot of different enrichments for them, including balls, burlap sacks filled with straw and blood (like in the video), as well as a wide range of enrichments built by our skilled carpenter.”
