Mao Mao the moggie reportedly takes part in three or four car promotions a month and earns between CNY 5,000 and 10,000 (GBP 552 and 1,104) for each one.

The cat’s owner, name not disclosed, who comes from the district of Jiangbei in the Chinese municipality of Chongqing, said Mao Mao is in her nature introverted and nervous of other people and had to be trained to be braver around people so she could pulling the fat cat fee for appearances.

The chubby feline has reportedly become a big hit at automobile events and boasts a large following on social media.

Mao Mao’s owner said he did not mean for the cat to become a sought-after car model.

He said he was attending a car show when he had the idea of putting the cat on a car and found that a crowd quickly formed, with many people taking pictures of the cute scene.

The owner added that Mao Mao has four or five beds at home, over five scratching boards, and only eats the finest cat food available to keep fit and healthy for future, lucrative car shows.
