HAVE A WHALEY SLAPPY BIRTHDAY: Humpback Whale High Fives Birthday Cops

This is the moment a humpback whale waves its fin and claps the sea, apparently to wish a police harbour patrol a happy birthday.

The special moment took place in the coastal city of Dana Point, in Orange County, California, USA, on 24th May.

The video, posted on Facebook by the OCSD Harbor Patrol, shows the whale on its side while waving its fin in the air and repeatedly splashing water.

Officers took it as sign the whale was giving them a sign to help celebrate their 47th birthday.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department took over providing harbor services to the boating community in the County of Orange on 24th May, 1975.

According to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) has moved from vulnerable to least concern, meaning it is at low risk of extinction.
