Helicopter Pilot In Hot Water After Landing Outside Dairy Queen To Get An Ice Cream
A helicopter pilot is in hot water after landing in the car park of a Dairy Queen fast food restaurant and blowing up dust into a nearby school just to get an ice cream.
The incident took place in the town of Tisdale in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan at around 5pm on 31st July.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Tisdale received a complaint that a chopper had just landed in a car park in a high-traffic zone and blew debris and dust around the area, which also boasts an aquarium and nearby school.
Following a preliminary investigation, it was concluded that the helicopter pilot did not have to make an emergency landing and that the purpose of the trip was apparently to buy an ice cream cake.
The pilot was identified as a man, aged 34, from the town of Leroy who is a licensed pilot, but broke the law by landing outside the Dairy Queen facility.
He was reportedly charged with dangerous operation of an aircraft and is due to appear in court on 7th September.
Tisdale mayor Al Jellicoe said he witnessed the incident while driving along the main road, adding that he thought “somebody must be hungry” and that it was “probably not the right thing to do”.
Jellicoe said he saw a woman passenger leaving the chopper and making her way to the fast-food restaurant.
He added: “The parking lot was empty when they landed… I suppose that doesn’t make it right.”
