Hero Dog That Rescued Drowning Pomeranian Honoured By NGO

This is the moment a hero dog rescues her “fur brother” from drowning in a pool which earned her a plaque and some treats from an NGO for bravery and compassion.

The brave Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Jessie was captured by CCTV cameras at her home in the South African city of Johannesburg rescuing her 13-year-old Pomeranian brother named Chucky on 8th April.

The brave canine has just been awarded a plaque by the Boksburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on 20th April.

The video shows Chucky walking along the edge of the pool and in a moment of distraction, falls in but is unable to get out.

Chucky paddles around the water towards the edges when Jessie appears and shows concern for her furry brother.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier is seen trying to grip Chucky in her mouth and pull him out, but is unable despite her repeated efforts for 34 minutes.

Jessie finally manages to pull the toy Pomeranian out of the water using her paws to pin him on the ground until she can move him far enough from the water so he can safely walk away.

The video ends showing both canines running from the pool and around the house before an image calling Jessi ‘Our Hero’ appears and a caption that reads: “That is why staffies are the best dogs.”

A second video shows a better view of Chucky who appears to be safe and sound after the scary moment.

Jessie’s brave actions caught the attention of the NGO Boksburg SPCA where she was adopted by her owners about five years ago. The NGO awarded Jessie with a plaque and a gift basket that came with toys and treats.

Her plaque, which called her an ‘Animal Hero’, said: “The Boksburg SPCA recognises and commends Jessie for not giving up to save her fur brother from drowning.”

One of her owners named Byron Thanarayen told the channel News 24: “It was amazing to be at the ceremony and we were super proud and honoured.

“Jesse was very excited, curious and sniffed around. She could hear all the other dogs and just wanted to go play.”

Byron and his wife Melissa were also contacted by the company Aqua-Net who has offered to install a pool cover at their home.

Byron, who was very thankful to the company, said: “They wanted to make sure this would not happen again.”
