Hero In Black Saves Biker From Being Swept Away By Floodwater

This is the moment a hero in black rescues a biker seconds before he would have been swept away by fast-moving floodwater like his electric bike.

The incident was filmed in the town of Tuxi in Qu County located in the southern Chinese province of Sichuan on 8th August.

In the footage, a man in black is seen rescuing a biker just as his vehicle is swept away by the fast-moving floodwater.

After the video was widely shared on social media, netizens hailed the mystery man’s brave act and called for him to be identified.

Local media tracked down the hero passerby and named him as Li Jianjun, an employee of the local gas board.

Li explained: “When the incident happened, the floodwater was still rising there and the current was rushing.

“The local authorities were short on manpower so I decided to take part in prevention and control work.

“Before the incident, the guy was riding an electric bike and tried to pass there, but was stopped by a duty officer.

“At the time, there were other people wading over to us and he took the opportunity to get on the bike and try to leave.”

He added that he managed to grab some overgrowth to prevent him from being swept away until Li arrived to save the day.

Li said: “I took his hand and pulled him up with all my strength. At first, I couldn’t pull him up because he was blocked by the electric bike. He moved a bit and the vehicle was instantly swept away, I had to use even more strength to pull him up.”

Aware of the risk to his own life, he added: “I thought to myself ‘if I slip here, it is all over’.”

He said: “If I was five seconds later, he may have been swept away. At that time, the current was very strong.”

Li told local media that the man was left “stunned” by the incident, but gradually recovered and went home.

Huang Haibo, secretary for the Chinese Communist Party in Tuxi Town, said they are aware of Li Jianjun because of his strong sense of civic duty and the good work he carries out.

Huang added: “He is also very attentive with gas users, which is well received by everyone.”
