This is the moment a large sea lion grunts at a fisherman as if to ask him for a fresh fish for lunch from his catch and the kind angler obliges.

The video shows the massive sea lion, that has managed to get on top of tyres designed to stop the boat hitting the quayside, making loud noises to get the fisherman’s attention in the town of Severo-Kurilsk, in the Russian federal subject of Sakhalin Oblast.

The sea lion patiently waits for its lunch and the kind fisherman obliges.

He puts a fish on the side of the boat and the sea lion stretches across and deftly catches it in its jaws.

At the end of the video, the sea lion appears to be in no hurry to leave as it apparently waits for another fish.

Local news site Vesti reported that the fishermen are used to such visits from sea lions and it is difficult to refuse them.

Some netizens found the video cute, while others were worried that the fishermen were part of an industry taking all the sea lions food from the sea leaving nothing for them to eat, and forcing them to beg.

A netizen named ‘Vladimir Maksimov’ wrote on the Russian social media website VKontakte: “Apparently there are no fish left in the sea, because the fishermen caught them all.”

And netizen named ‘Nikita Lavochkin’ wrote, “This is the sea lion’s fish already. He is taking what’s his.”
