Both remain in jail with bail set at USD 20,000 (GBP 14,900) over the felonies allegedly inflicted on the baby girl.

Kootenai Health, which is a hospital in Coeur d’Alene, alerted the police to the situation after noticing “traumatic” injuries on the baby.

The injuries are said to be “significant and critical” and are reportedly consistent with sexual abuse.

The authorities arrested the couple after a month-long investigation, with court documents reportedly mentioning a doctor who examined the child and said that she had brain injuries that were not accidental and that were “very specific to abuse”.

The young girl is said to have suffered 14 broken bones, including multiple broken bones in both of her legs.

These injuries were allegedly most likely caused by the “forceful grabbing and twisting” of the baby girl’s arms and legs.

The baby girl was also found to be suffering from multiple fractured ribs, which were broken on different occasions and which were consistent with blunt force trauma.
