This is the moment Italian firefighters rescue two rock climbers trapped on a steep cliff face.

The rescue took place in the municipality of Gaeta in the province of Latina in the Italian region of Lazio on Saturday, 29th January.

In the late morning, the emergency services received reports of two rock climbers in distress in the area of Monte Orlando and a rescue team was sent to the scene.

The team found the climbers trapped on a ledge on a steep cliff overlooking the sea.

When the rescuers arrived on the scene, the male climbers, who came from the province of Frosinone, were stuck on a ledge about 80 metres from the closest point to the rescuers’ position.

The rescue team decided help was needed and called for a helicopter to airlift the climbers to safety. The aviation unit of the Ciampino Fire Brigade duly answered their call and sent their chopper to the scene.
