LIFESAVER SON DIES: Man Who Raised Cash To Save Cancer Mum Killed In Car Crash While Collecting Her From Hospital

A young man has died in a car crash while picking up his mother from hospital after raising over GBP 25,000 to pay for her cancer treatment abroad.

Marei Bokhurm from Libya launched a crowdfunding campaign called ‘For My Mother’ to raise money for her cancer treatment in Jordan.

He said: “I’m Marei Ibrahim Taher Bokhurm, I have a mother who has cancer, and now an operation is required in Jordan for a bone marrow transplant, I hope you can help me.”

Marei raised almost LYD 150,000 (GBP 26,020) to pay for the treatment before his untimely death.

According to reports, he was driving to the Libyan city of Benghazi to pick up his mother following chemotherapy treatment at a local hospital when he was killed in a car crash.

Dalal Al-Mushaiti, head of the ‘Friends of Cancer Patients’ NGO in Libya, said: “This brave young man, Marei Bukhram, passed away at God’s mercy after a traffic accident while travelling to the city of Benghazi to pick up his mother at hospital after she underwent treatment.”

She said the young man managed to raise LYD 150,000 for his mother’s bone marrow transplant, adding that the organisation is involved in organising the treatment outside of Libya for her.

Marei’s death shocked many netizens on social media and ‘Mohammed Al-Taweel’ commented: “He struggled to save his mother and then died, now he has left a lonely mother in the world, struggling with disease and pain for her loss.”
