This is the moment lift doors close on two men carrying a pane of glass causing it to shatter as the lift goes up and showering one of them in sharp shards.

The incident was filmed by a lift CCTV camera in the city of Dongguan in the south-eastern Chinese province of Guangdong on 8th May, and the video has been widely shared on the social network Douyin.

In the footage, the two men are seen exiting the lift while carrying a large pane of glass.

However, the doors suddenly close between them, trapping the pane. While still holding one end, the man inside the lift starts pressing the door-open button.

After a considerable delay, the lift starts descending and the pane of glass shatters inside the elevator.

The man cowers in fear as broken glass rains down on him.

It is unclear if the man suffered any injuries in the incident and whether the local authorities are investigating the matter.

Dongguan is a major industrial city on the Pearl River Delta, bordering the provincial capital Guangzhou to the north, Huizhou to the north-east, Shenzhen to the south, and Pearl River to the west.

Dongguan ranks only behind the cities of Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Suzhou in terms of exports in the country.
