A homeless woman who abandoned her seven-year-old son over 35 years ago has been reunited with him, and not only did he forgive her but he also asked her to move into his house.

Kazakh national Galina Rumyantseva, 60, abandoned her son Sergei Rumyantsev at the age of seven and did not see him again for over three decades.

The two were reunited in the Kazakh region of Karaganda after the local authorities decided to help the woman find her long-lost son.

According to a statement by the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs yesterday, 8th November, Guldana Umitbaeva, a senior inspector in the department for the protection of women, headed the investigation.

She said in the statement that Galina had been living with an unidentified roommate but after being kicked out last year, she moved in with her daughter who was an alcoholic and had no job.

Her daughter died this year and Galina ended up living on the streets for a stint before being taken in by the crisis centre.

Guldana helped her to get a job, put her on a waiting list for permanent housing, and asked her if she had any living relatives.

Galina revealed that she had a son but she abandoned him 35 years ago and had not seen or heard from him since.

Guldana managed to track down her son, Sergei, who lives in the village of Pridorozhnoe located in the Kostanay region.

Galina broke down in tears during a video call, which was the first time the mother and son had seen or heard from each other in 35 years.

During the conversation, Sergei forgave his mum and upon hearing that she was living in a crisis centre, offered to pick her up and move her into his house.

According to the Ministry, Galina has now left the centre and is living with her son.
