This is the moment a quick-thinking man lifts his pet pooch up in the air by its lead and then spins around to keep it away from the jaws of an attacking stray dog.

The incident was filmed outside the man’s home in the city of Guangzhou in the south-eastern Chinese province of Guangdong last week.

The man, name not disclosed, said he went to take his pet pooch for a walk when the stray dog appeared from out of nowhere.

He said he had seen the stray wandering around the area before, but was surprised when it came to attack the moment he left his front door.

The dog owner said the stray ran directly for his pooch so he instinctively lifted it up by its lead to prevent injury.

He span his dog through the air several times before managing to bring it safely to the ground outside his home so it could run inside to safety.

In the footage, the man is seen leaving his home with his dog on a lead and about to walk along a lane.

However, another dog comes running over, apparently to attack the pooch, and the owner lifts his pet off the ground by its lead and starts spinning it in the air.

The man manages to confuse the attacking stray enough so that he can safely lower his spinning dog in front of his home so it can run inside to safety.

The pet dog apparently suffered no injury from being spun around although it was a little dazed.
