This is the moment a dad trips while walking down concrete steps with his baby in his arms and manages to roll his body mid-tumble to prevent the tot from smacking its head on the ground.

The incident was filmed in Linqu County in the city of Weifang in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong on 24th May, and was later widely shared on the social network Douyin.

The father, name not disclosed, tripped while walking down the steps and used his body to protect his baby from potentially hitting its head on the ground.

According to the news site Weibo, both father and baby were uninjured in the fall.

In the video, the father is seen walking down the steps with his baby in his arms.

He appears distracted by something happening further up the road and trips on the last step, falling forwards with a risk of dropping the baby.

He uses one hand to cushion his fall before wrapping both arms around the baby and rolling his body to use as a safety mat for the tot to fall into.

The dad sits up and cradles the youngster before getting to his feet and limping away.
