Moment Driver Leaves Petrol Station With Pump Still Attached To Van, Causing Huge Fire

This is the moment a motorist drives out of a petrol station with the pump still attached to his vehicle, causing a huge fire to break out.

No one was injured in the incident, which took place at the petrol station in the Brazilian city of Foz do Iguacu on Wednesday 16th June.

A security camera captured the moment the driver exited the petrol station without realising the petrol pump was still inside his van’s fuel hole.

According to the petrol station manager, Leandro da Silva Valim, the driver had refuelled, paid at the till, got back into his vehicle without realising the pump was still attached and drove off.

The footage shows how the machine topples and a fire breaks out straight away, due to a suspected short circuit.

Leandro himself is seen rushing to grab a fire extinguisher with which he puts out the flames in little over a minute while his colleagues retreat to a safe distance.

Thanks to Leandro’s swift actions, a bigger fire was thus avoided. He told reporters: “It was a scare because we never think it’s going to happen. We think it won’t happen to us.”

The manager revealed he had shouted at his colleagues to keep their distance. As such, no one was injured in the incident, and the only damage was material.

Leandro said: “We receive training to know what to do. Thanks to the training, we were able to contain the fire.”

The petrol station’s insurance company has said it will cover the repair costs, exempting the customer who caused the accident from any liability.
