The police said the officer was standing outside of his patrol vehicle on the grassy median when the car hit him.

Officer Baley, who has been a cop for 14 years and has two sons, said: “I thought I was done. I thought my leg shattered. I thought I was going to bleed out.

“They go ‘we don’t see any broken bones’, and I was like ‘can you run more tests? Because your equipment has to be flawed’.

“You have to be all in. You have to put your trust in him. That’s why I like having ‘In God We Trust’ on the back of my squad car.”

He added that he is unsure when he will return to work, but cannot wait to put his uniform back on.
