Motorboat Catches On Fire In The Middle Of Monona Lake(OYT / ZYT)

The Madison Fire Department was called in for a night emergency at Lake Monona for a small boat that caught fire on the water. Medic 3, Engine 3, Ladder 6 and Car 31 responded to the shores of Lake Monona near E. Wilson Street while the Lake rescue team was launched from Olin Park on 28th June.

From Law Park, Medic 3 was able to see a small jet boat completely involved in the fire about 30 metres (100 feet) offshore. The three people who had been on the boat jumped into the water and swam to shore without being injured. Meanwhile, the boat continued to move slowly eastward and began threatening a floating dock nearby. The Lake Rescue Team’s rescue boat managed to put out the fire using an onboard master stream that can flow up to 1,892 litres (500 gallons) of water per minute. According to the City of Madison Fire Department press release, the owner told firefighters that he had recently bought the boat and that it was running smoothly until it suddenly stopped on the water. During repeated restart attempts, the engine flashed, causing the fire.
