This is the moment a stunned family films a line of mysterious lights in the night sky before experts pointed out it was from SpaceX’s launch of Starlink satellites earlier in the day.

As the incident took place on 4th May, many netizens wondered if it had something to do with ‘Star Wars Day: May the 4th Be With You’, observed every year on that date.

One family in the city of Kennewick posted footage of the lights in the night sky while admitting they had “no idea” what they could be.

The National Weather Service of Seattle said on Twitter: “Looks like this is associated with today’s @SpaceX Starlink satellite launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.”

SpaceX’s Starlink satellites launched at 12.01pm and were filmed travelling over Oregon shortly after 9.30 pm.

It was SpaceX’s second launch of 60 satellites in less than a week.

Last month, the Federal Communications Commission allowed SpaceX to operate over 2,800 more satellites in lower orbits with the company hoping to create a “broadband megaconstellation” for affordable internet use all over the world.

On the night in question, Twitter user ‘Katie Daviscourt’ asked: “Just saw this UFO flying above Alki Beach in Seattle. Can anyone identify what it may be?”

Baffled netizen ‘Tessa LaVergne’ said: “Uhhh, this just went overhead. Any idea what it is?”

‘The Hoffman’s’ wrote: “Ok guys. This just flew by my house. Long line of something. What is it?!”

KPTV anchorwoman Bonnie Silkman posted: “Spotted in the sky! @OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) says you’re looking at #Starlink satellites from a @SpaceX launch. We’re hearing reports across the area of a long streak of light in the sky tonight. Did you catch it? Share your videos/pics here!”
