Pennsylvania Cops Watch As Man Removes Live Deer From Car Boot During DUI Traffic Stop

These images show Pennsylvania cops watching as an embarrassed man removes a live deer from the boot of a car during a DUI traffic stop and crosses the road to release the struggling animal.

The incident took place in the area of Old Trail Road and Old York Road in the US state of Pennsylvania on 6th January at around midnight when Newberry Township police officers carried out a traffic stop.

The footage, which appears to have been shot from a police vehicle, shows the stopped car with the police officers inspecting it. One of the three suspects appears to then climb out and open the boot of the vehicle and removes a live deer from it.

The suspect, one of three occupants including a driver said to have been of interest to the police because she appeared to be under the influence, then walks across the road and appears to release the deer, whose age and gender are unclear, into a nearby field.

The police said that the driver, who has not been named, was suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and the officers were inspecting her when they noticed the live animal in the boot of the vehicle.

The occupants of the car, which included an older man, a 21-year-old man from York Haven, and the 19-year-old female driver, none of whom have been named, explained that they had hit the animal with the vehicle and that they had put it in the boot of the car, not realising that the animal was still alive. It is currently unclear what they planned to do with the deer.

A short while later, they said, they realised that the animal was still alive but they continued to drive. The police said that the 19-year-old female driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and that the Pennsylvania Game Commission was assisting them with their investigation.

The fate of the deer is currently unclear but it is believed to have made it safely into the wild. It is currently unclear if the deer suffered any injuries when it was hit by the car.
