Police Kill Gunman Who Destroyed Patrol Car With AK-47 And Left 3 Cops Injured

This is the shocking dashcam footage showing the moment a gunman uses an AK-47 to disable a patrol car and injure an officer before he is killed when the police return fire.

The footage was taken from a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) patrol car in Carroll County in the US state of Georgia on 12th April.

It involved an incident that left three officers injured and killed suspect Pier Shelton, 28.

According to a CCSO statement Pier and his cousin Aaron Shelton, 22, led officers on a wild car chase in the area and fired at them injuring Carrollton Police Department Sergeant Rob Holloway.

The suspects crashed in an area just off Highway 61 and ditched their car before gunfire was reported near Ithica Gin School where Villa Rica Police Officer Chase Gordy was also reported to be hit by gunfire as the authorities were setting up a perimeter.

CCSO Corporal Jamison Troutt and Deputy Jay Repetto, who had been a part of the pursuit for some time, answered the call before the deadly exchange of fire was captured on their dashcam.

The video shows Corporal Troutt drive to the scene stopping for a short assessment as Officer Gordy’s vehicle is seen ahead. However, Troutt charges forward after hearing some gunfire.

Pier Shelton suddenly appears holding an AK-47 and with what appears to be a broken leg immediately opening fire at the cops stopping the patrol car in its tracks.

According to the police statement, the gunman’s subsequent shots landed a bullet in Deputy Repetto’s arm.

The video ends as Repetto and Troutt return fire, hitting Pier Shelton and killing him.

Aaron Shelton was detained a short while later and remains in custody but his current legal status is unclear.

Local media said Sergeant Holloway remains in an ICU after he was struck by gunfire in the head but is improving favourably. His exact condition is unclear.

Deputy Repetto and Officer Gordy, who suffered two gunshot wounds, have both been discharged from hospital and are recovering at home.

The CCSO statement said: “If not for the heroic efforts of all Officers and agencies involved and to Corporal Troutt and Deputy Repetto for stopping the suspect, this incident could have resulted in more Officers being injured or killed.”(sic)

It added: “The suspects could have posed an even bigger threat to the public as this occurred in a residential area, and at this time of the morning, people are getting ready for work and staff is getting ready to arrive at the school.”(sic)

The incident reportedly started when the suspects were caught speeding at over 100 mph on a motorway and were stopped by the police which led to the car chase.
