Schoolboy Keeps Fish In Makeshift Tank Under Desk To Relieve Study Stress

A Chinese schoolboy has created a makeshift fish tank underneath his desk to help relieve stress while studying.

The video was filmed at a school in the city of Jieyang in the south-eastern Chinese coastal province of Guangdong, and the footage has been widely shared on the social network Douyin.

The middle school student, name not disclosed, said he wanted to create a “simple fish tank” to keep under his desk to help relieve the pressures of studying.

Using an old container and sticky tape, the youngster achieved his “fish dream” and keeps several goldfish in his makeshift tank with him in class.

The boy said he has been caring for fish at home for nearly two years and his class aquarium did not affect the other students.

He added that he would like to pump more oxygen into the water and set up some lights in the future.

In the footage, the camera pans to a narrow container positioned to one side of the boy’s table, just below the worktop.

The makeshift tank, apparently made of plastic and wrapped in tape, is home to at least four goldfish.

It is unclear if the boy’s school is aware of his makeshift tank and if they allow him to keep fish in class.

For many years it has been believed that keeping fish helps to improve a person’s mental health reduces stress, and this was confirmed when Plymouth University carried out tests that showed just watching fish in an aquarium ‘led to noticeable reductions in participant’s blood pressure and heart rate.’

Many doctor’s surgeries and waiting rooms have aquariums for exactly this reason, and now it seems the same thing is being organised to apply to at least one schoolboy’s desk.
