Small Plane Lands On South Africa Motorway To Refuel And Then Takes Off Again

This is the moment a small plane takes off from a South African motorway after making an emergency landing on the tarmac to refuel.

The incident took place on the N2 motorway in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal on 10th April.

Eyewitness Kevin Krummeck, who helped push the plane to safety after it ran out of fuel, said the pilot was travelling from the city of Pietermaritzburg in the province of KwaZulu-Natal to the town of Port Saint Johns in Eastern Cape Province.

Krummeck told Newsflash that he was driving with his wife Donna when they saw the plane landing on the motorway.

He said that he helped to push the plane off the road where it was refuelled, and then took off again while the road was blocked by helpers.

Krummeck told Newsflash: “We were driving from Margate on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast, on the highway to Pietermaritzburg, and as we came around a corner, we saw this small aircraft that had just landed in front of us.

“We pulled over and I helped them push the plane to the grass between the highway. What happened, according to the pilot, was that the fuel in a tank in one of the wings had all been used and they tried to switch to the other tank, but there was a blockage and they couldn’t get it to flow through.

“They only had six litres left so they had to make an emergency landing. They had managed to call a friend close by who brought them some fuel, and they filled the empty tank and took off again.”

Krummeck added: “It was quite surreal!”
