This is the dramatic moment Texas cops save a semi-conscious man from a burning pickup truck in a car park shortly before it explodes.

The incident was filmed in a car park in the city of Austin in the US state of Texas on 24th May.

The body-cam footage shows two officers working together to extinguish some of the flames and dragging the man out of the burning vehicle before dragging him to a safe distance.

The man who had experienced a medical emergency before the blaze started was taken to hospital with serious smoke inhalation injuries and there have been no further updates on his condition.

For unknown reasons apparently related to his medical emergency, he was unable to take his foot of the accelerator after parking the pickup truck, and the spinning tyres sparked the fire.

Police assistant chief Robin Henderson said that officers Eddie Pineda and Chandler Carrera received a chief’s coin of recognition on 25th May for their “heroic effort”.

The police assistant chief said on Twitter: “Please join me in recognizing these two for their quick-thinking and bravery!”

The local fire brigade said that the two cops were the first on the scene and that they managed to pull the man out of the pickup truck before it was completely engulfed in flames.

The Austin Fire Department said on Twitter on Tuesday: “We salute our brothers in blue from @Austin_Police.

“Officers Chandler Carrera and Eddie Pineda – who bravely risked their own lives at this car fire yesterday just before we arrived, smashing the window and dragging the man to safety.”

Chief Joseph Chacon said on Wednesday: “Despite the danger, they rushed in and saved a man’s life.

“These are the guardians of our community. Thank you, officers Pineda and Carrera!”
