Thick Smoke Fills The Air During Huge Blaze At Crisps Plant In Oregon

This is the moment Oregon firefighters battle a huge blaze at a crisps factory as thick black smoke fills the sky.

The blaze broke out at a Shearer’s Foods plant, one of the largest crisps plants in the area, located in the city of Hermiston in Umatilla County in the US state of Oregon on 22nd February.

Umatilla County Fire District #1 shared the footage of the incident on social media with the message: “On Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 12:51 p.m. Umatilla County Fire District #1 responded to an explosion at Shearer’s Foods, one of the largest potato chip plants in the area.

“The explosion was caused from a portable boiler fueled by natural gas. Six injuries were reported and they were transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center.

“Evacuations were put in place for homes to the south of Shearer’s Foods, as well as the Comfort Inn and Suites, and OSP is monitoring the freeway.

“Union Pacific has been notified not to use the railroad.”

The fire department said: “This is the largest fire our District has seen in the last decade. Mutual aid was provided by Umatilla Rural, Umatilla Tribal, East Umatilla, Pendleton, Pilot Rock, Irrigon, Echo, Ione, Lexington, Boardman, Heppner, Morrow County EMS, Hermiston PD, OSP, Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Hermiston Water Department.

“There were roughly 60 firefighters working together on this fire.”

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
