Three Retirement Home Residents Reanimated But One Dies After Third Covid Jab

Three residents at a retirement home in Germany had to be reanimated after being given a third booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and one of them reportedly later died.

The incidents took place at a care facility for the elderly in the city of Oberhausen, which is located in the Western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Three unnamed residents at the retirement home had to be resuscitated over the course of the last week three days after being given a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

One of them subsequently died, while the other two are in a stable condition, an unnamed spokesperson for the Medical Association of North Rhine-Westphalia (Kassenaerztlichen Vereinigung Nordrhein) said on Tuesday, according to German newspaper Welt.

The person who is said to have died had previously received palliative care, it has been reported.

A subsequent report by regional newspaper WDR stated that only two residents of the nursing home in Oberhausen had to be resuscitated and that there had been no deaths.

It is currently unclear if there is a connection between the cases and the booster dose of the vaccine.

Ninety residents at the care facility received a booster dose and about 10 per cent of them had disorders as a result, which were primarily cardiovascular, respiratory and neurological disorders.

The spokesperson added that the cases have been reported to the state health ministry and to the national drug agency (BfArM) and that any links between the vaccine and the cases were being investigated.

Germany is currently offering a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to the elderly and two other at-risk groups in some federal states if their first vaccinations were at least six months ago.
