Uber Driver Pulls Up To Report A Passenger Who Was Carrying A Gun

Livonia, Michigan, 22 June

An Uber passenger was arrested after the driver reported to the police that his passenger entered the vehicle with a gun. The Uber driver reported his passenger to the police after he took the opportunity to make an excuse and pull up over at the BP Gas Station located at 33265 Schoolcraft in Livonia, Michigan, the United States on the 22nd of June. The driver reported to the police that his passenger seemed suspicious. The driver believed that the passenger was armed with a handgun and that they were being followed by a secondary vehicle. The Uber driver stated that he feared that he was going to get robbed. Officers immediately responded to the scene. While talking to the passenger, identified as Melvin Griffin, 21, he took off running. An officer followed Melvin and soon after the officer was able to catch up with him and take Melvin under custody. From the back seat of the Uber vehicle, officers recovered a 9mm pistol with an extended magazine that had been previously reported stolen to the Fraser Police Department. Melvin Griffin was arraigned in the 16th District Court.
