US Cop Shoots Chimp In Head After It Went On The Rampage

This is the moment a US cop shoots a pet chimpanzee called Buck in the head after it attacked its owner, who had to hide in the basement until an ambulance could safely get to her.

The incident took place in the city of Pendleton in the US state of Oregon on Sunday morning.

The police were called to the home at around 8am after the chimpanzee’s owner, Tamara Brogoitti, 68, reported that Buck had escaped from its cage and bit her 50-year-old daughter, name not disclosed.

The younger woman reportedly sustained bites to her arms, legs, and torso, and her mother requested that the police shoot the animal so an ambulance could treat her daughter.

The pair locked themselves in the basement where the victim was “bleeding profusely”.

In the audio recording of the 911 call, Brogoitti is asked if she is applying pressure to her daughter’s injuries.

Brogoitti replies: “I’m trying to guard her from a 200-lb ape, so I can’t really put pressure on it, ma’am.”

According to the police, when officers arrived at the scene, they found the ape in a fenced-off area and one cop shot Buck in the head, killing it on the spot.

The cop says in the video after firing his gun: “He’s down.”

The police confirmed that the chimp was shot in the head and that both Brogoitti and her daughter were transferred to hospital for medical attention.

The animal rights group PETA said in a statement on 21st June that Brogoitti created a “ticking time bomb” by depriving a “highly social animal of the companionship of other chimpanzees” to keep as a pet.

According to local media, Brogoitti had kept Buck for around 17 years.

Owning exotic animals in the state of Oregon is illegal unless the owner is licensed with the Agriculture Department or has a valid permit issued before 2010.
