This is the bizarre moment a van is suspended in midair by two trees after the driver lost control and came off the road.

The incident took place near the city of Qinyang in the eastern Chinese province of Henan on 31st May.

According to local media, the vehicle was wedged between two trees about two metres from the ground after coming off the road.

The Qinyang traffic police said the driver had not been drinking and was in good condition.

He reportedly managed to get down from the lofty position with the help of a local resident and a ladder.

It is unclear how the driver came off the road and wedged the van in midair between two trees, but speculated that he may have been driving too fast and lost control.

The incident remains under investigation.

In the footage, the damaged front-end of the van is seen crumpled against one tree while the back bumper is trapped by another tree.

Baffled locals chatter about what must have happened after the driver had apparently already got out of the vehicle with the help of a resident and his ladder.
