This active volcano spewing lava did not stop a sporty group of people from playing basketball in its vicinity.

The incredible video was taken by 23-years-old Thelma Dogg Gretarsdottir and posted on her Instagram page.

The volcano is called Fagradalsfjall, located or Reykjanes Peninsula around 40 kilometres from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.

Thelma told Clipzilla: “Beachvolleyvikings, the top men’s team in the world made a pepper challenge where the idea was to come up with fun, creative way to pepper in volleyball.”

In the video, Thelma plays with her boyfriend Sigpor Helgason and her teammates Kari Hlynssonand Borja Gonzales while another teammate records their game.

Thelma explained: “It was my idea to do it with my boyfriend, Sigthor and then we found out that the other two guys were also planning on filming it (Borja’s idea) so we decided to do it together. We were there all together because we play in the same club and Borja is the coach of the three of us”

The weather conditions were harsh even in that circumstance.

“Yes it was really minus 12 degrees Celsius and the wind was so strong and cold that the weather forecast said it felt like minus 26 degrees Celsius.

“You could feel some warmth from the volcano but the wind was so strong that it was way more cold than warm. We were maybe 50 metres from the dry lava but you were able to walk much closer to it than it looks.”

Thelma explained that there was no fear at all and that they felt safe.

“We were not in any danger there, there are really incredible people making sure that everyone is staying safe.”
