Firefighters Rescue Missing Dog That Spent 24 Hours In Icy Sinkhole
This is the moment firefighters rescue a golden retriever called Macy after she fell into a deep sinkhole and was missing for 24 hours before eventually being found by a fellow canine in the park.
The rescue took place at Marilla Park in the city of Streator in LaSalle County in the US state of Illinois on 12th February.
According to local reports, the fire department was informed about a golden retriever that had fallen down a sinkhole after a man walking his dog noticed something was wrong.
The man’s dog found Macy in a snow-covered sinkhole in the park some five feet below the ground and alerted him to the trapped pooch.
Fire chief Fred McClellan and his team arrived at the scene to rescue the dog, which had been missing for around 24 hours.
The fire team positioned a small ladder into the hole. However, Macy was unable to climb up it.
As a result, McClellan nearly fell into the sinkhole while trying to lift the heavy pooch out using secured webbing around the animal.
In the footage, Macy is seen being rescued by McClellan and his team and reunited with her worried owner.
After the dog returned home, Streator Animal Control said in a social media update: “Macy is home! She fell into a sink hole at Marilla and the fire department just rescued her! Kudos to them. Please do not go down there until they get the area secure.”
