German Fire Brigade Relocates Duck Family After Magpie Attack

A family of ducks that were in danger because of a hungry magpie was rescued and released by the Munich Fire Brigade. A witness saw the magpie bird attacking the mother duck with her seven ducklings in Munich, Germany on 8th July. Magpies our noisy and aggressive predators that will often eat the eggs of other birds, and even take their chicks or in this case ducklings to eat. As the observer could not reach the flat roof to protect the ducks, he sought the help of a local rescue team. It is unclear how the duck family ended up on the roof. When rescuers arrived, the duck family had already jumped off the roof in the courtyard and hid in the nearby bushes. Emergency services collected the ducks, checked their injuries and transported them to the duck pond in the Isar floodplain. There, the eight-members family was released safely.
