A young American girl with a batman mask-like birthmark on her face who was described as a ‘monster’ on a visit to Church with her mum has had the last operation to remove it in Russia.

She still needs some injections to aid the healing process, but will then be allowed to go home afterwards.

It means that little Luna Tavares Fenner will spend her third birthday at home in the city of Miami. in the US state of Florida, for the first time.

She was diagnosed with a melanocytic nevus while still inside her mother’s womb, which is a problem not only because of the aesthetic angle that laid her open to cruel comments, but also because it can easily turn into a malignant neoplasm.

Treatment in the United States proved impossible for the family, but then an oncological surgeon in the Krasnodar region named Pavel Popov heard about the case and offered to help.

He said: “For us, the girl’s case was very straight forward. Therefore, we contacted the mother of Luna through social networks and invited her to come to us.

“After lengthy negotiations, that involved providing information and getting answers to questions, she decided to come to our country for the treatment. Luna’s case is far from the most difficult in my career.”

After first going to Krasnodar on 25th September 2019, Luna has now had her last operation, and now the focus is on removing the scars from her face. She still reportedly needs a complex series of injections, after which she will be allowed to go home.

Popov said after the last operation: “That’s it, the nevus is gone. Now all our efforts and the efforts of our peers are focused on smoothing out the scars.”

Luna’s Mum Carol Fenner had said that she is hoping her daughter will now be able to have a normal childhood free from abuse.

She said: “The worst situation happened in the church. There, a little girl asked her mother what happened to Luna’s face, to which she replied: ‘Oh my God, don’t look over there, it’s some kind of monster! How ugly!”
