DEATH BLOW: Tarmac Machine Blowout Kills Road Worker
This is the gruesome moment when a tarmac machine’s tyre bursts, sending the wheel’s metal rim into a construction worker’s throat, killing him.
The freak accident was captured on grim CCTV footage from the construction site in Ponta Grossa, Parana state, Brazil, on 9th July.
The video shows how road workers were standing on the pavement watching the tarmac being laid.
Suddenly, one of the vehicle’s giant tyres bursts and the wheel’s metal rim flies into victim Davi Jose da Silva Lima’s neck at the speed of a bullet.
The 56-year-old’s hard hat flies off and he instantly collapses onto the ground as his worried colleagues rush over to him.
Paramedics and firemen were dispatched to the scene, but Davi died almost instantly.
Davi was employed by a company that the municipal authorities had contracted to carry out the paving works.
The municipal authorities have said that they will cooperate with the investigation into his death and that they will provide all the necessary assistance to his relatives.
The Ponta Grossa Municipal Works Department has said that the paver had been inspected and that the tyre that burst was new.
