Florida Cops Tells Tangled Dolphin I Got You Buddy As He Painstakingly Removes Fishing Net

This footage shows a cop telling a trapped dolphin “I got you buddy” as he painstakingly removes a fishing net from the marine animal off the coast of Florida.

The marine patrol officer received a call about a dolphin in distress in the area of Shorecrest near St. Petersburg in the US state of Florida this week.

The Miami-Dade Police Department shared the footage on social media on 12th January with the message: “I got you, buddy!

“Officer Nelson Silva, of our Marine Patrol Unit, received a call of a dolphin in distress in the Shorecrest area. Officer Silva located a juvenile dolphin that was trapped in a fishing net. Watch the video to see how Officer Silva helped free the dolphin.”

In the footage, the marine patrol cop is seen encountering the dolphin, tangled in a fishing net, in the bay and pulling it closer to his boat so he can attempt to cut the animal free.

The dolphin appears to patiently allow the cop to help it, but jumps the gun when it thinks it is free of the net and thrashes away.

However, the eager dolphin only manages to rip the net from the cop’s hands and seemingly hurt him.

The dolphin, still entangled in some of the net, remains close by and the officer pulls it close to his boat for a second attempt.

The dolphin thrashes in the water again and the officer loses grip of the net, managing to completely cut it away on the third attempt.

Officer Silva is heard cheering at the end of the video as he holds up the large section of net that was wrapped around the dolphin.
