A jilted influencer hired a gang of thugs to throttle her ex-boyfriend in revenge for ending their romance, say police in Brazil.
Beautiful Isabela Gomes Pereira, 28, is accused of handpicking three men to break into her ex’s home with her to punish him for finishing with her.
One – say investigators in Contagem, Minas Gerais state – used a rear naked choke on sleeping victim Leandro Rezende Morais, 36.
He was then tied with electrical cables and choked to death with a power cable from a fan while all four kicked and beat him, according to local media.
Police believe Gomes had meant to scare and injure her ex but got carried away in the attack, carried out in June.
Now she and two of the gang are facing charges of robbery with violence resulting in death, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
A third suspect is still on the run, according to police.
They say Leandro was killed by mechanical asphyxiation due to “neck constriction and blunt cervical trauma”.
Gomes and two of her gang are being held in preventive custody.
Ringleader Gomes is believed to have found the three men – aged 20, 24 and 31 – in nearby Belo Horizonte and convinced them to break into her ex-boyfriend’s house at night.
As well as beating him, Gomes told them they could loot his home and split the profits.
On the night of the crime, police said, Gomes picked the men up and drove to the victim’s house.
One of them then jumped the wall and opened the gate for the others.
Leandro’s mobile phone, television, perfumes, trainers, clothes, portable speakers and a car valued at BRL 97,000 (GBP 15,300) were stolen from the property.
There had been numerous incidents of violence during the couple’s relationship, reported local media.
In September last year, Gomes had gone to the police after Leandro allegedly slapped her in the face and pulled her hair.
And in April this year, the pair fought when Gomes allegedly caught Leandro in a restaurant with another woman.
The influencer allegedly smashed a glass on Leandro’s table and scratched his car, and Leandro told police she also stole his wallet.
Gomes had 11,000 followers on social media and used her profile to market cosmetics and post motivational quotations.
