Man Fined After Sharing Footage Online Of Him Driving Car With Piece Of String Tied To Steering Wheel

This man has been fined after he shared footage online showing himself driving a car and steering with nothing more than a piece of string tied to the steering wheel.

The incident took place in the city of Mianyang, in south-western China’s Sichuan province.

The footage shows the man, who has been named only as Xiao Moumou, driving a car with a friend apparently sitting in the passenger seat and filming him.

A piece of string can be seen tied around the left side of the steering wheel and the man shows off how he can apparently navigate the city streets with ease without having to use his hands.

But the dangerous stunt ended up costing him after he reportedly shared the footage online and it came to the attention of the Mianyang Public Security Bureau.

A second piece of footage shows the man in a police station and eagerly nodding in acquiescence to whatever the police officer in front of him is telling him while he pointedly jabs his finger on the table.

The police said that they deducted two points from the driver’s licence and gave him an RMB-200 (GBP 23.50) fine.

No injuries were reported in the incident and it is believed that the man would not have been caught had he not shown the film in social media, as he did not crash or cause any accidents.

Police had, first of all, identified the car, and when they tracked down the owner, he admitted that his son had been driving at the time, who was then called in for questioning.

It was unclear why he decided to stage the bizarre stunt but he appeared to be indicating that it showed what a good driver he was and that he could manage to control the vehicle even though his hands were not on the wheel.

His friend had reportedly questioned his driving ability, and he had decided to show that the criticism was unjustified with the bizarre stunt.

A police report indicated that the other man in the car had doubted that his friend would pull off the stunt, at which point he had then felt obliged to show that he could do it.

It was not revealed what punishment the friend received for his involvement in the stunt and for encouraging his friend into the dangerous manoeuvre.
