Moment Monkey Convulses After Eating Poisoned Biscuit That Killed Nine

This is the heartbreaking moment a monkey shakes uncontrollably next to a kindhearted helper as nine were found dead in Malaysia after a suspected poisoning incident.

The bodies of the nine monkeys were found in the suburb of Paya Terubong in the city of George Town in the Malaysian state of Penang, and a security guard at a nearby residential complex informed the police.

In the footage, the monkey is seen convulsing as a woman wraps it in a blanket and gives it a white liquid in a syringe.

The second clip shows several dead or near-dead monkeys on the ground, some of them shaking slightly.

The woman buried the dead monkeys in a grave at the bottom of the hill where they lived.

Police spokesperson Soffian Santong said: “The security guard made a report after it was discovered that the nine wild monkeys were suspected to have been poisoned in front of the apartment in Grand View.

“The case has been referred to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further investigation.”

In a statement on social media, the department said: “The PERHILITAN Department is investigating public complaints related to a suspected poisoning of monkeys at Jalan Bukit Kukus, Front of Block 16, Grand View, Ayer Itam, Penang on June 26, 2021.

“Preliminary investigation found nine (9) monkeys have died in a suspected poisoning. However, the type of poison and source are still under further investigation by the PERHILITAN Department.

“The PERHILITAN Department will investigate this case under Section 86 (Tyranny against wildlife) of the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716) due to the fact that the Long-tailed Macaque is a protected wildlife under [Act 716 ].”

According to reports, a woman who regularly feeds the animals in the area informed the security guard, claiming that she found a piece of biscuit that had apparently been poisoned and given to the monkeys.

The security guard, name not disclosed, said: “I have lived here for 40 years, I have never heard a complaint about the monkeys disturbing the residents. This act is very cruel and strict action must be taken against the perpetrators.”
