Most Wanted Aussie Arrested After Killer Evaded Long Arm Of The Law For Over 12 Years

Australia’s most wanted man, a convicted killer who was allegedly hired to assassinate the son of a prominent Melbourne underworld boss at his wedding, has been arrested after managing to evade the long arm of the law for more than a decade.

The 12-year manhunt came to an end when Graham Gene Potter, 64, who was wanted since 2010 for conspiracy to murder, was detained in the rural town of Ravenshoe in the north-eastern Australian state of Queensland, the police said today, Monday, 21st February.

In the statement, obtained by Newsflash, the Queensland Police said: “A man wanted on a Victorian warrant for conspiracy to murder since 2010 has been arrested in Ravenshoe in Far North Queensland this morning.”

The suspect, who has a record that includes homicide, according to the police, was also reportedly wanted for drug offences. Potter was allegedly hired to murder a man at the wedding of the son of a Melbourne underworld figure who has been named as Mick Gatto in 2008. He also faces charges regarding ecstasy and cocaine worth AUD 440 million (GBP 233 million) that was seized by police in the same year.

The police added: “Acting on information received, Tablelands Detectives, uniformed police and the Cairns Dog Squad attended an Ascham Street residence at approximately 8:45am where 64-year-old Graham Gene Potter was located and taken into custody.”

The police also released this footage showing the arrest. The police can be heard announcing their presence after entering a building, which appears to be a chicken coop, in which the convicted killer can be seen apparently hiding in a corner.

A police officer can be heard saying in the video: “Stay there, do not move! This is the police! Do not move!”

The convicted killer can be seen complying with the police officer’s command.

The building appears to be full of animals and rubbish, and the man is seen being escorted in handcuffs from the premises by a police officer.

Potter can then be seen standing outside barefoot with a police officer on either side of him before a police vehicle pulls up and he is put inside it. A canine unit can be seen to the right of the footage as the video ends.

The police said: “It is alleged Mr Potter failed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court in February 2010 on charges of conspiracy to murder.”

They also said that they received information that the convicted killer had been repeatedly spotted in the area in the past. They said: “Tablelands Detectives have had previous information regarding sightings of Mr Potter in the Tablelands area, where it is alleged he evaded police in Tully in 2010.

“Detectives from Victoria will travel to the Far North, to seek Mr Potter’s extradition.”

The police said that the suspect will appear before the Mareeba Magistrates Court tomorrow, on Tuesday 22nd February.
