Maryland Zoo, Baltimore, 8 July

These two otters can be seen exploring their habitat at the zoo after several months of renovations in the Maryland Wilderness. Piper and Hudson were greeted back at their ‘upgraded’ home in the Maryland Wilderness at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore County on 8th July. The two playful, Piper and Hudson, are North American river otters (Lontra canadensis) well adapted for semi-aquatic life. These otters swim by propelling themselves with their strong tails and flexing their long bodies. They also have webbed feet, water-repellent fur to keep them dry and warm, and nostrils and ears that close in the water.
