This is the moment a railway guard saves a drunk from being crushed by an oncoming train when he collapsed on the tracks after a drinking session.
The incident was filmed at Bien Hoa Railway Station in Bien Hoa in the southern Vietnamese province of Dong Nai at around 7.35pm on 5th July.
CCTV footage of the drama shows the drunk – not named in local media – tripping and sprawling across the tracks right in front of the level crossing guard while the barrier was down.
The quick-thinking guard rushes over and drags the man to safety just seconds before the train passed through the level crossing.
Once the drinker is safe, the guard can be seen punching the air in relief at the rescue.
The man was given first aid for cuts and scrapes and allowed to go home.
The hero guard – named as Trinh Van Tai – told local media: “I was just thinking that I have to save the man by any means without fear of danger for myself.
“The man appeared to be drunk.
“He did not intend to commit suicide, but just tripped over. Only after saving him did I breathe a sigh of relief.”
Railway station director Le Dinh Ha said that he asked the Vietnam Railway General Corporation to reward the guard for his selfless act.
He added: “Today, the company’s bosses went to his workplace to give flowers, rewards, and praise him as a prime example of bravery.”
